Summer
The start of summer at Hobson School is celebrated with summer camp! Our outgoing students can register to keep the fun going directly after school ends. Once our preschoolers have wrapped up camp, alumni come back for outdoor play at Camp Hobson, too.
As the summer progresses, we begin welcoming incoming students and alumni for playdates in our outdoor playground. These playdates give children a chance to grow accustomed to the school environment, meet other students, and grow comfortable at school. Parents and caregivers also connect as the children meet and play.

Getting Ready for School
During our summer workdays, our cooperative parents come in to help get the grounds ready for the year ahead! Each family volunteers one adult for a single four-hour workday shift, which is a hands-on way to help care for the children’s school environment.
Home visits give teachers a chance to introduce themselves to students in their most comfortable environment. On the first day of school, parents stay with students to help ease the transition into a joyful new year.
Another tradition: pictures on the big rock outside!

Fall
As school gets underway and students settle into class, we celebrate with a few favorite Hobson traditions.
Current students and alumni gather for Fall Fest, a celebration of all things fall at our school.
Families take lantern-lit hikes through Goodrich Woods at night, with one hike for current students and another for alumni.

Winter
In winter, Hobson School’s outdoor classroom offers wonderful opportunities for play outdoors. Whenever snow is on the ground, the children love to play on the sledding hill! Before Bedtime Stories, children are invited to participate in our beloved Stuffie Sleepover, where their favorite stuffed animals spend the night at Hobson and enjoy their own special adventures.
Our Executive Director, Mrs. Wilson, invites current students for an evening of cozy bedtime stories at Hobson School. The students love putting on their jammies and visiting school at night!Winter Camp welcomes Hobson alumni and community members for once-a-week, after-school fun in the fresh air.
Our fundraising team also holds a parent trivia night toward the end of winter. Part fundraiser, part fun-raiser, this event is a fun way to gather with other Hobson family, staff, and friends for some friendly competition.

Spring
Our Spring Social is our annual celebration of Hobson School. Hobson parents, staff, and supporters gather to celebrate the mission of Hobson and support the school through live auctions, with many items generously donated by local businesses. This tradition is always an encouraging, reinvigorating time to honor Hobson’s unique mission and keep the school going strong.
In the spring, our Plant Sale fundraiser helps Hobson families and supporters beautify their gardens and helps our school continue to bloom!
We celebrate the end of the year with our wonderful Ice Cream Social where families gather, children play, and everyone enjoys a sweet treat!

Year Round
At Hobson School, the sense of community extends far beyond the classroom.
Class coffees during school give parents the chance to meet each other and socialize casually. Often, little siblings, future Hobson students, get to know each other and play during these events too. Each class also has a group text where parents support one another, share helpful information, and plan playdates and fun class get-togethers throughout the year.
Each day at drop-off and pick-up, families have opportunities to chat with one another and with Hobson's staff, building relationships that strengthen our school community. After school, students enjoy playing in the outdoor classroom as parents and caregivers connect.
Teachers meet with parents for conferences and stay in regular contact through email and a school photo-sharing app.
